The following paragraphs concern the study of Andrew's personality, as induced by the positions of the planets and Rising sign. Some of the character traits mentioned may seem completely contradictory and incompatible. This is because the rough-hewn personality is a rarity. Usually, individuals are made up of a subtle orchestration of many different tones or aspects. However, serious introspection or detailed analysis should make it possible to distinguish the opposing or diverging images comprising Andrew's overall character, and perhaps, in time, find the best and most harmonious way to integrate them.

Andrew is a fiery, emotional creature. As a result of the preponderance of emotion, sensation, and feeling in his psychological make-up, he has acquired a deep sense of his individuality and uniqueness. He sometimes feels " different " - set apart from others. The preceding comments about creating the world in his own image are strong indications that Andrew seeks to identify with his superego. The difference between his ideal of himself and the individual he knows himself to be in truth, measured in terms of his social recognition or the recognition of his creations (children, works of art, etc.), will determine his state of mind. It is therefore important for him to make these images match to a certain extent, to reduce the gap as much as possible. The psychological dynamic described earlier explains many of the pluses and minuses in Andrew's personality. His dignity and self-assurance may border on vanity; his strong instinct and ambition combined with his somewhat exaggerated individualism incline him to be self-centered. He may be proud and insolent, but he is also courageous, determined, and generous. He has the skills of an educator or an artist; moreover, he is mysteriously lucky.

Andrew is a pleasure-lover and will find self-fulfillment in creative activities.

Andrew's personality develops mainly in the shelter of the home: he is attached to his family, his heritage, and his past.

At the time of Andrew's birth, his Rising Sign was located in Gemini (the Twins), while the Sun was passing through the constellation of Leo (the Lion). A summary of the various clues mentioned above provide Andrew's personality profile; the following key words distill the essence of his character and indicate certain contradictions which may create tension:

Everyone he meets is struck by his radiance, his eloquence. Andrew likes to show off his gifts and is at ease in the social world, so he is bound to succeed. However, he must keep an eye on his impulsiveness and the immature side of his nature. The right balance between his intellectual abilities, which are lively, eclectic, and cheerful, and his artistic gifts - he is sensitive to shape, beauty, and color - could bring great creations into the world.

Born in the three days prior to the New Moon's appearance, Andrew is said to be of the " Balsamic Moon " type. This soli-lunar configuration gives him a spiritualistic character closely attached to generous humanitarian ideals. He is sometimes sorely tried to limit himself to the narrow scope of individual ambition. Indeed, he aims for a humanitarian ideal which would include the outcasts and the unfortunate: he fervently hopes the meek will inherit the Earth. Due to the influence of the lunar dominant on his birth chart, Andrew's character is strongly attached to his image of his mother. He did not (or will not) cut the umbilical cord easily, and he will always identify with his childhood memories, happy or unhappy. His mother (or a mother figure), was probably strongly protective of him. Psychologically attached to his need for security, he is convinced that he may be overpowered by the demands of adult life. No matter how much he matures and evolves, he will never be out of contact with his inner child. He is sensitive and vulnerable, moody and somewhat easily swayed; subjective and nonchalant. The basic personality tendencies as described here will no doubt be counteracted to some degree by the environmental, psychological, or emotional needs outlined in the next chapter. Nevertheless, they form the roots of his psyche, anchoring it as it grows and develops.

Andrew seeks to make his inner wealth outwardly manifest and substantial.

Andrew's tendency to introversion inclines him to live inside himself, amid his inner world. He is apt to listen to his subjectivity, his intuition, and his secret opinions rather than reason and logic.

While Andrew is attracted to interpersonal activities, his significant need for inner security may stand in the way of his overtures to others. Since he is highly receptive to other people's inner natures, he seeks tight bonds with others. He unconsciously needs their psychological support in his quest for himself. Were he to evaluate his psychological development, he would place more value upon human warmth, intimacy, and the need to share than on intellectual understanding or personal freedom of expression.

For Andrew, the family is deeply meaningful. He remains attached to his childhood and the memories associated with it. Mentally, he is a seeker, a deliver, a questioner who enjoys solving the mysteries of life. History, tradition, and the origins of his family and ancestry might become hobbies or even a profession. He will be very conscious of the legacy he has received from his forebears, and eager to enrich it.

Andrew needs to assert his originality. He is individualistic and independent, and lives life according to his own rules. People and things matter to him only insofar as they relate to him, and he ignores or disregards any annoyances he may encounter. His passions are lively and ardent, and he truly loves to give. He is endowed with great authenticity, and can be quite generous, as long as he is aware that others admire him.

The numerous contradictions and tensions which are a recurrent feature of Andrew's astral theme balance each other out and endow him with a stable, well-tempered character, after all. Indeed, they are especially likely to protect him from unsolvable frustrations and, in terms of reality, will enable him to acquire a certain social and professional success without too much effort on his part. At that point, he must be careful not to take on too many responsibilities. His confidence in his ability to accomplish things may make him spread himself too thin.

Andrew is emotional and passionate. He obeys an urge to revive the positive emotional experiences from his past, to deepen them and make them more fervent. His emotions are primordial in his sense of values. As a result, he always forms his own ethical judgments (good/bad, true/false, etc.) and is only slightly influenced by others. He forms bonds with only few people, but the relations he does maintain are lasting, high-quality bonds based on trust. Attracted by stability, he abhors change; but when change arrives, it is as forceful as a tidal wave.

The following psychological study is a " blind " analysis which cannot take into consideration factors proper to Andrew's social background or education. Nevertheless, it describes the basic structure and dynamic of his psyche as the result of an interplay of various influences; that is, without confining it to certain categories or arbitrarily putting a label on it. Certain contradictions may appear, but they are an integral part of the paradoxes and ambivalence of his nature. It is impossible for us to predict which tendency will win out: that will depend on Andrew's decision.

Consciousness and The ideal of Self:

Andrew is patient. He is fond of routine, ritual, and any other events or ceremonies which mark the passage of time and the seasons. He tries to be as pragmatic as possible, and unconsciously senses that his relationship with material things will be the best foundation for his self-development and individuation. As a result, he is attached to his possessions, and will make every effort to cling to them.

Andrew may be subject to mood swings, going from phases of frenzy combined with a feeling of omnipotence and exaltation to phases of apathy and inertia. During his " highs ", his behavior is vigorous and dynamic, but it is also likely to be somewhat excessive. These periods tend to be interspersed with " lows ", phases of sluggishness and inhibition, which compensate for his immense need to assert himself as an individual. How can Andrew find a way out of this vicious cycle which uses up so much of his energy? He would have to understand that the source of his attitudes and behavior is an unconscious desire for power. We suggest that he meditate upon power, skills, mastery, challenge, desire, and need; his brothers (or brother-substitutes, such as friends, cousins, or classmates), who are key figures, and his adversaries. This should enlighten him about his complex. Of course, once he has a clear awareness of his career ambitions and profound desires, he is sure to have plenty of energy to accomplish them.

Andrew enjoys sharing and has a constant need for contact with other people. He tends to be free and uninhibited in his relations with other people, rarely allowing himself to be influenced by convention or prevailing opinion; he associates with whomever he pleases. This attitude makes his life refreshing and exciting, and he is never bored. In career terms, he is quite gifted for any field related to communication, where his intellectual singularity and lively wit would make him an amazing hit. He would also be likely to succeed in any activity where the work required a multidisciplinary approach: teaching, advertising, politics, etc.

Adaptation and Sensitivity:

Mild and sensitive, Andrew is deeply human. He is sociable and sincerely devoted to others. His mother (or a mother-figure) had a strong influence on his psyche, and his childhood was an important time in his life. He still identifies with vivid childhood memories; they are the basis for his reveries, for his extreme sensitivity, and for habits which he may be slow to break. However, he will thrive in the shelter of a family setting, soothed by the presence of a wife and children. He is fond of security and routine; being somewhat impressionable and anxious, he may have trouble adjusting to situations which are unfamiliar.

Optimistic and happy to be alive, Andrew is a cheerful, expansive, pleasant associate to have. He is extremely generous (sometimes to a fault!), and gives of himself and his belongings unstintingly. This positive psychological outlook is the result of a happy childhood, and especially an extremely beneficial maternal influence in infancy. Andrew is quite likely to be a professional success; his vision of the world is perfectly adapted to prevailing opinion, and his urges and desires for personal expansion usually elicit a positive reaction from society. By old age, his good reputation and prominence may have earned him some fame.

Andrew is hyperemotional and tends to react suddenly and excessively as soon as his sensitivity is touched. Although he feels that his independence, freedom, and self-sufficiency are fundamental values, he is sometimes frustrated by his need to rely on his family or his friends. Moreover, he does not always grant the freedom of other people the same respect as his own. Likewise, he is sometimes angered by expressions of maternal tenderness and femininity (in his partner and women in general), as if he feared that it would doom him to eternal dependency, although femininity is the element which unconsciously lured him into the relationship in the first place. To ward off his feelings of dependency, he sometimes tends to become furiously destructive. Based on denial, his reactions are sometimes fierce, impulsive, and excessive, and usually erratic or contradictory.

Andrew's sensitivity and emotions are sometimes in conflict with his instincts. This inner discord makes him a fairly complicated relationship partner, and his behavior sometimes strikes others as mysterious or baffling. Moody and totally unpredictable, he is liable to switch from one extreme attitude to the opposite. Sexuality is an important part of Andrew's life, and his relationships are most often motivated by his desires. Nevertheless, due to his unconscious inner battle, he does not often succeed in reconciling and fulfilling his emotional and sexual needs. Due to the strength of his instincts, passion may overwhelm him and drag him into situations he cannot always control, which intermingle erotic ecstasy and anguish, guilt and aggressiveness.

Love and Sensuality:

In affairs of the heart, Andrew is fairly shy, reserved, and discreet. Even in intimacy, he remains modest, and does not always readily express his feelings. Despite his somewhat repressed sensitivity, he aspires to purity and depth in what could be the starting point for an improvement of his personality, if not a total transformation.

Andrew's birth chart indicates an emotional function which is usually expressed carefully and reasonably. Distrustful of his emotional urges and somewhat wary of his feelings, Andrew tries to rid himself of all partiality, and tries to get some perspective and distance before making an emotional commitment.

Keen sensitivity and brilliant eloquence and expressive skills give Andrew a highly personal charm. In his youth, he may be driven by strong narcissistic impulses to engage in a series of brief flashes of love which prove to be disappointingly fleeting. But one day, he may allow himself to be subjugated by a woman with a gentle, vulnerable personality and delicate femininity, eager to admire him and nestle in his masculine embrace.

Fiery and passionate, Andrew may fall in love with a woman who is not in tune with his sensual and romantic wavelength. She may be intellectually refined, practical, and realistic, more absorbed by the problems of daily life than be great sentimental adventures.

Caurious and reserved, Andrew is sometimes unwilling to open himself to others if he is not sure of being accepted. He will always hang back somewhat from loosing the tide of his emotional urges, parceling out his expressions of affection, because he has learned - sometimes at his expense - that even the most harmonious relationships require some compromise. For him, " good fences make good neighbors ", and well-marked boundaries can prevent future suffering. Thus, even when he is in love, he remains fairly circumspect. When he finds himself attracted to a partner, he privately engages in a careful analysis of her personality and life story, endeavoring to know her profoundly, to see whether he is likely to be able to share his life and future with her. As a result of his sensitivity, Andrew has a profound affinity for all of the arts. Music, literature, painting, and graphic arts are likely to enrich his existence and make it pleasant. He could progress in any career in which balance, order, and praticality predominate.

From the outside, Andrew seems to be detached and aloof, but on the inside he is an extremely complex individual, full of contradictions. Because he sometimes feels vulnerable emotionally, he tries to control not only his own feelings and urges, but may also strive to manipulate those of his partners. He aspires to a profound and enduring spiritual unity, but at the same time, the idea of abandoning himself and yielding to the other terrifies him completely. This anguish may be a source of rather extreme behavior patterns and a somewhat selfish attitude which could damage the relationship. Mental and intellect:

Powerfully ruled by his determination and vital needs, Andrew's intellectual abilities come to the forefront when his purpose is to communicate his ideal and plot his action or strategy. He can be both logical and astute, and has gifts for theorizing, but may sometimes lack perspective.

Andrew tries to shun subjectivity and be as objective as possible. His thoughts are usually structured, and his reasoning, based on objective facts or experience, usually relates to practical goals.

Andrew has a mind with an insatiable appetite for knowledge, and an exceptional ability to learn. Without trying too hard, he could probably accumulate encyclopedic erudition. His intellectual curiosity is such that it is sometimes a drawback: he sometimes has trouble limiting himself to a single subject without being distracted by a multitude of others. Discipline and a conscious effort at organization will be of great help to him if he wants to deepen his learning and judgment. Once his intellectual faculties are disciplined, he is likely to succeed in any of the following fields: teaching, historical scholarship, advertising, writing (journalistic or literary), travel, etc: in fact, communication in any form.

Andrew has a great deal of intuition, but sometimes has problems organizing his thought processes and making an intellectual commitment. The concepts of boundary and structure are inimical to his mind, which is open and all-encompassing, premonitory and web-like. His thoughts may be verbally indeterminate, vague, and ill defined. He tends to understand or sense things globally, without always noticing their component parts: usually, he can't see the trees for the forest. In daily life, although his perceptions are lively and subtle, he may display a kind of absent-mindedness, out of a fear of annoying people with his shrewdness or of fighting to assert himself. His imagination sometimes escapes from the confines of logic, cringing from a confrontation with reality. This unwillingness to face the real world may cause problems for him in his relationships with other people as well as in his career.

The Moon is the first dominant in Andrew's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

As the second light of the solar system, the Moon has always been associated with the Sun in the minds of men. The Moon and Sun are the primordial cosmic couple. This satellite of the Earth, which mysteriously waxes and wanes, has been compared to the Eternal Feminine principle, the mother hovering over her infant's cradle. Psychologically, the Moon is thus symbolic of the Mother and the Mother Image. This figure is a primordial element in the psyche of each individual. Depending on his nature, the mother figure may correspond to his biological mother, a grandmother, or a woman who cared for him in infancy and childhood. When a person reaches adulthood, this mother-figure and all the emotions and bonds associated with her may be transferred to something else: a wife, a companion, an institution, a church, corporation, or political movement, a cult, etc. In short, any individual or structure likely to take on the mother's duty of caring for and nurturing the vulnerable aspects of an individual. To be more down-to-earth, the Mother-Figure corresponds to the habits which were learned and then definitively incorporated into the individual's identity as he gradually became acculturated and progressed towards social independence. As a result, a strongly " lunar " personality often finds it difficult to adapt, and is uncomfortable outside the secure setting of familiar routines. Closely tied to his past, Andrew may be unwilling to detach himself from it and embark on his life as an individual in the here-and-now. He still identifies somewhat with his inner child, and may display a child's capricious and unstable behavior, indulging in moodiness and indecision. His passivity may make him easily influenced, his sensitivity makes him subjective, and he hesitates to open up and lay his soul bare. In his daily life, psychic activity will rule : his imagination, memory, sensitivity, sensation, and sentiment nearly overwhelm his psyche.

Mercury is the second dominant in Andrew's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

According to Greek myth, Mercury (or Hermes, whose name derives etymologically from the piles of rocks which marked trails and guided travelers) was the messenger of the gods. He carried orders from Olympus to the mortals on Earth. The child of the illegitimate union of Zeus with Maia, Mercury was born " unknown to the immortal gods " and had to win his place among them by trickery, cleverness, and cunning. This is why he became the vagabond deity of travelers and wanderers. He is the instinctive foe of the settled, who see him as an outcast roaming on the outskirts of society: a pariah, a thief, and a swindler. As mater of the sign of Gemini, the Twins, he symbolizes the brother - the alter-ego who teaches us as much as we teach him, and is associated with adolescence, a period of intense intellectual discovery. Mercury thus symbolizes lively, sparkling wit, mobility in any form, mental exchange and interaction. As a result, a person strongly ruled by Mercury is quite likely to be clever and skillful. If Mercury is " afflicted ", his intellectual velocity may sometimes become mere mental hyperactivity. In any case, his skills are a great resource in the social realm. He communicates easily and effectively, orally or in writing. His ability to unite and transmit would be a good resource in diplomatic or commercial endeavors.

Mars is the third dominant in Andrew's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

In the Greek tradition Mars or Aries was the god of war. Traditional astrology associates him with the element Fire, the color red, and the taste of bitterness. Although he also symbolizes the elder brother in the cosmic family, he is more likely to be associated with declared enemies or adversaries. Martian morphology is typically virile, angular, and athletic, and corresponds to aggressive, domineering, masculine behavior. Likewise, Mars is usually associated with rage, its resultant brutality, and male destructiveness and domination. Psychologically, Mars figures in any situation of conflict, opposition, and confrontation. Martian symbolism intervenes to separate, oppose, and decide... and corresponds to duels, war, and any situation in real life which involves confronting an obstacle. Individuals who are greatly influenced by Mars are typically direct and straightforward: either unabashedly extroverted or furiously introverted. They are extremely active and extremely emotive. Their purpose in life seems to be inextricably mingled with a combat against an unacceptable situation, a challenge which they either issue or are forced to accept.

The Fourth House is an area of the sky which is especially important in Andrew's theme, because it contains several planets, including the one which rules his Rising Sign. In the following paragraph, we shall explain the general meaning of this fact.

Traditionally, this house is associated with the home, family, inheritance, cultural heritage, traditions, the dwelling, the native land, etc. The South Node, one boundary of the Fourth House, corresponds to the vertical line connecting the Zenith to the Nadir. The polar opposite of the North Node, the highest point on the map of the sky, the South Node is the lowest and, as a result, symbolizes the individual's past; his foundation, sources, and inner self. Within the inner self, in the intimacy of the memory and the unconscious, the individual's family and ancestral past dwell concealed, mingled with the roots of his future development. Psychoanalytic theory demonstrates that an individual's future is determined by early childhood experiences. Astrology does not contradict this assumption, when it points to the Fourth House as the basis of any social or spiritual growth. The fact that this area is significant in Andrew's chart means that he is seeking his personal center. He sometimes experiences a feeling of insecurity which inspires him to establish a stable foundation for his life. As a result, he may be reluctant to leave behind the psychic and material pattern he inherited from his biological family and lineage. Certain important crises in his life may be related to this emergence, this construction of a new home in the here-and-now. If he is able to perceive the hidden bond between his reluctance to assert himself as an individual and his roots in his family's past, he will be able to attain true stability.

The Third House is an area of the sky which is especially important in Andrew's theme. In the following paragraph, we shall explain the general meaning of this fact.

According to tradition, this area is related to intellectual abilities. It is also associated with the immediate family environment: brothers and sisters, peers and classmates, and people in the social setting we relate to every day, like neighbors, etc. Likewise, study, writing and publication, correspondence and letters, mobility and short-distance travel are also attributed to this house. Another aspect of it concerns bodily movements and exchanges, like the circulation of the blood, breathing, nerve networks, the hands, etc. In essence, this house corresponds to the mental interface between the individual and his environment. Indeed, if intelligence is the ability to adapt to one's environment, it is true that on the other hand, the environment has a basic influence on the formation of character and the way the individual will react to life. By asserting itself, adapting and claiming a place of its own in society, an individual's self is formed and defined, and learns to know its potentials and its limitations. In doing so, the self develops elaborate mental tools. If this house is especially significant in Andrew's chart, it means that he will find positive adaptation to his environment his main challenge in life. It is likely that the presence or absence of brothers and sisters was a major factor in his development, and that one of the main psychological issues he is dealing with is resolving the problems of identity and selfhood which arose in relationships with siblings and peers. Biologically, his nervous system is likely to be fairly vulnerable; in any case, it is the barometer of his general physical well-being. Psychologically, communication, both verbal and written, is his passport to fitting in, to social integration. He is quite likely to embark on lengthy studies which will enable him to develop the skills necessary for effective communication and productive exchange. Regardless of the level at which he functions in society, he will obey an urge to express his ideas and opinions, and communicate with others about himself.

Many people mistakenly believe that astrology is too deterministic. However, as even the ancients said, " The stars incline but do not determine. " In fact, the astral chart is evidence that each of us is accountable only to himself for his life and his destiny. Neither Heaven nor the occasional Hell of human contacts can be held responsible for the situation down here on Earth. Astrology shows us that life is what we make of it: all we really obtain is what we decide to accomplish ourselves, of our own volition.

If Andrew really wants to improve and transform himself, the first step is to become aware of the weaknesses which may be holding him back and preventing his evolution:
- His pride and short temper

- His need to dominate
- His refusal to tolerate criticism

For Andrew, the main goal to aim for, in order to give purpose and meaning to his life, would be to play a role in the edification of the society. He sometimes feels torn between private life and the outer world. He must not yield to his unwillingness to confront the world and his social duties.

Andrew's Sun is located at 6° LEO. His masculinity and drive for psycho-sexual fulfillment would best be aroused by the femininity of a person whose Moon is at 0/12° LEO or AQUARIUS.
